Jeep Wrangler History and Facts
Where did the name "JEEP" originate from

Where did the name "JEEP" originate from

I am not sure where the name originated for sure but, there are a couple of thoughts on the web that I believe could be possible. The first theory I ran into was that the original military call letters for the Jeep was GP. This in time was slurred to sound like jeep. My personal favorite theory and the story I believe the most likely is that the vehicle was named after "Eugene the Jeep" a character from the Popeye comic strip. Eugene was characterized as sort of a dog like animal that "Can go Anywhere". The name seemed fitting and it stuck. Well that's my story and I am sticking with it. If you would like to read more about this follow this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_the_Jeep.
Jeep Wrangler a brief History

Jeep Wrangler a brief History

Originally a military vehicle designed prior to World War II the Jeep Wrangler has become well acclimated to civilian life. First introduced as a civilian vehicle in 1945 as a model CJ-2A. The CJ series of Jeeps where replaced in 1987 with a larger more comfortable YJ model. There square headlights easily distinguish them from the rest of the Jeep Wrangler models. In 1997 the TJ model was born and more creature comforts where added. The heating and airconditioning systems where a great improvement over the YJ predecessor. The TJ model marked a switch from leaf springs to  coil springs giving the TJ an even smoother ride and increasing flexibiltiy off-road. The latest Wrangler the JK made it's debuit as a 2007 model. The interior comforts are a whole order of magnitude above the Tj model and the whole Jeep grew. A four door model was also added. The two door JK stretch out 1.4" inches over the TJ and the four door model JK gains 12" over the TJ unlimited.
